Based on the latest Ministry of Health Guidelines for Outbreak Prevention and Control, the following measures apply when someone becomes ill with a respiratory infection or gastroenteritis:

For Employees:

  • If you develop respiratory symptoms, stay home until symptoms have improved for at least twenty-four (24) hours and you are fever-free.
  • Notify your immediate supervisor or designate if you are ill.
  • If symptoms develop while at work, wear a mask, practice respiratory hygiene, inform your supervisor, and go home as soon as possible.
  • Once you return to work, continue to wear a mask for ten (10) days from symptom onset.
  • For gastroenteritis, remain at home until symptom-free for forty-eight (48) hours before returning to work. If symptoms develop while at work, perform hand hygiene, notify your immediate supervisor, and leave as soon as possible.

For People Supported:

  • Those with respiratory symptoms should stay home and isolate until symptoms improve for at least twenty-four (24) hours and they are fever-free. Employees supporting them must wear masks and follow infection control measures for ten (10) days from symptom onset.
  • Those with gastroenteritis should isolate for forty-eight (48) hours or until symptom-free.
Additional Measures

Employees providing personal care to sick individuals must:

  • Use the appropriate PPE (gloves, mask, face shield/safety glasses).
  • Follow enhanced cleaning and disinfection protocols, focusing on high-touch surfaces.

It is important that we remain diligent in following all health guidelines to ensure everyone’s good health is maintained.

Our Health and Safety Co-chairs, employees and others continue to work together to ensure that we continue to follow all IPAC measures and exhibit our best efforts to keep everyone healthy. At Mary Centre, this continues to mean that our services in Toronto, York and/or Peel will follow any future restricted requirements and recommendations as directed by our Government and Public Health officials.

When we become aware of any future guidance provided by the Department of Health in Peel and York Region, and Toronto, we will respond accordingly.
