Yvonne

for people like Yvonne.

Yvonne has lived in a Mary Centre supported independent living apartment for several years, and also participates in introduction to community. Here's how Yvonne describes her life.

"I have four different workers and they all help me with appointments, helping me in hard times, good times, Mary Centre stuff and other things too.

I am also athletic (and have been with) Ontario Special Olympics for the last 20 years. The sports I play are indoor soccer, outdoor soccer, bowling, basketball and speed skating. At first I wasn't so good, but a couple (of) years later I improved and got better.

I'm so proud of myself for going to the provincial Winter Games in Barrie and the Ontario Special Olympics. I go to meets and tournaments for all my sports.

A lot of people are proud of me."

Mary Centre helps people like Yvonne enjoy independent, fulfilling lives, doing what they love to do.

How We Help

For all of us, belonging in a community and being able to participate fully is essential to our well-being.

Just like others, adults who are developmentally challenged, want social contact, recreation and leisure activities, friendships and family.

This is what we strive to achieve at Mary Centre. We want to create new opportunities for adults with a developmental challenge - helping them work towards greater self-confidence and personal independence so they can take part in fulfilling educational, employment and life experiences.

When someone comes to Mary Centre for the first time, we identify what is most important to that individual, including family, community, faith and health. We respect their right to make their own choices.

Then we assist them in integrating all of the components that will achieve a rich and satisfying life. The support we offer encompasses a variety of residential and outreach services.
